CYBERCRIME PS ARRESTS ONE FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY  

Cyber Crime Police Station, PHQ has arrested one person from Kohima on 18th May 2023 for Child Pornography. The accused was part of Rooms/Groups in the "Wickr app" where child pornography was shared/posted amongst the members. The case was referred to Nagaland Police by Interpol, Stockholm through CBI International Police Co-operation Unit (IPCU).

Nagaland Police would like to reiterate that publishing or transmitting obscene or sexually explicit material in electronic form is a criminal offense under IT Act. Wickr app, like Whatsapp, provides end-to-end encryption; however, Law Enforcement Agencies can gain access and detect criminal activities. The public is requested to inform the police department if the circulation of obscene and sexually explicit material is seen on social media platforms or messaging apps so that legal action be initiated.
