F. P SOLO GRACES THE 5TH EDITION OF SNAIL & TROUT FESTIVAL OF POILWA VILLAGE, PEREN

The 5th edition of annual Snail & Trout festival of Poilwa village was commenced on 26th April 2024 with RTD Principal Secretary to the Government oF Nagaland F.P. Solo as Special Guest. 

The festival was held under the aegis of MT. Rhododendron Adventure Club Poilwa village (MRACP). Gracing the inaugural function as the special guest Solo lauded the organisers MT. Rhododendron Adventure club for having him in such joyful occasion. He said that snail and trout festival may not be a traditional or normal festival but it is good to organise even non-traditional festival. Snails & trout are our popular traditional food items. They may not be popular with youngster who lives in town and cities but it's a special delicacy for older people, he added.

He further said that, Zeliangs are different in many ways and easy to identify because of its uniqueness and encouraged the gathering to preserve our identity and proclaim the identity proudly to the world. He also urged the village council to make some realistic master plan for development of tourism industry in the village. Asserting that concern citizen should aim of making Poilwa village into a model tourist village he encouraged the villagers to approach the Tourism department for technical help and support. He urged the educated young boys and girls to cultivate the habit of appearing various competitive exams. If you work hard with total commitment, determination, dedication and passion everyone will achieve what we desired in life, he added. We cannot depend on our parents or others all of us need to do something to earn for our own livelihood therefore, one should not hesitate or be ashamed to grab any occupation or job for living.  

Solo stressed on the importance of tourism and its viability to generate revenue for the population. While lauding the organisers he said that Poilwa village had huge potential to attract wider participation even in the days to come. He wished all the participants and others at the fifth edition of snail and trout festival of Poilwa village a grand success.

The inaugural program was chaired by Egwetheulie while H.K Nbung delivered the welcome address and Ngaukobe proposed the vote of thanks. Nkwetlie and Mrs Heusamcholie presented traditional folk song.

Highlights of the event were Snail Eating Competition, Hedip (Short jump), Cho-nsin (stone chess), Folk Song Competition, Poster Competition & Traditional Attire results.

Activities for the 2nd day on 27th April includes Hezo-Nzo (hill race), Nature Walk, Snail Eating Competition, Tamnung (sling shot) Poster & Traditional display.
