WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY CELEBRATED AT PHEK

World Environment Day 2024 cum Half Marathon in commemoration of 50 years of Nagaland Board of School Education organised by the department of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Phek Division and Nagaland Board of School Education was observed at Phek district on 5th June 2024.

            Dwelling on the theme ‘Land Restoration, desertification and drought resilience’, Deputy Commissioner, Phek John Tsulise Sangtam NCS said every person is aware of the consequences that have led to the destruction of our environment, which is leading to many adverse development effecting human life directly. He also said that the rainfall we are receiving now is not retaining by the soil but flows away due to deforestation and soil erosion leading to frequent landslides and flash floods in the state. Therefore he called upon all to be aware of deforestation and focus on tree plantation for good environment.

            Superintendent of Police, Phek, Dr. Pritpal Kaur Batra IPS in her speech called upon the students to maintain no pollution, no plastic wastage, no water pollution, no water shortage and practice afforestation to make the district clean and environmentally beautiful. She also mentioned that North East India being a hot spot of Bio diversity, encouraged all to preserve the environment , by way of tree plantation, avoiding hunting of wild animals and birds as it effect the eco-system, practicing integrated farming and be aware of the effects of pollination, global warming and mentioning sustainable environment.

            Divisional Forest Officer, Phek, Enyiwekha Wezah also dwelled on the effects of land degradation, desertification, urbanization and drought which has made our land fragile caused due to deforestation of our environment and called upon the students to take up the responsibility  to take care of our natural environment and restore the land by ways of plantation.

            Welcome address was delivered by Assistant Conservator of Forest  Phek, Dzuthovito Lcho while the vote of thanks was proposed by Sr. Principal, GHSS Phek Town, Limadangit Jamir and programme was chaired by Ravolu Chuzho

           The marathon race was flagged off by Superintendent of Police, Phek, Dr. Pritpal Kaur Batra IPS. The winners received a cash awards and certificates.
