STATE LEVEL SEMINAR ON IMPORTANCE OF RELIABLE STATISTICS FOR DATA PROVIDERS HELD

A State level seminar on awareness amongst data providers on importance of reliable statistics was organized by the Economics And Statistics Department with Advisor, Fisheries And Aquatic Resources, Evaluation and Economics And Statistics (E And S), L. Khumo as Special Guest at Capital Convention Centre, Kohima on 30th November 2021.

Advisor, L. Khumo addressing the seminar said that a seminar like this will be of great help to identify the gaps and to bridge such gaps for building up an accurate official statistics and strengthen the statistical system in the State.

Additional Director & HoD, E And S, Neidilhou Angami highlighted the importance of the seminar for Data Providers and said that the seminar is being organized particularly for the line departments officials since most of the data are obtained from them. He said that the administration data lying with the various line departments plays a very vital role in policy formulation and intervention and it directly impacts the State development and economic growth as well as affecting the performances of the Government in many areas.

Neidilhou stated that statistical data are like magic rod as it can make you the best performing State or reduce it to the worst performing State. He stressed on the importance to have a unified and accurate data base for the entire State for effective planning and monitoring and to enhance the State’s potential, capabilities and perspective.

Special Secretary, Government of Nagaland, Kevileno Angami, Deputy Director, Higher Education, MedongoiRhakho, Chairman, Zynorique Initiatives Society, Ar. Richard Belho and Senior Consultant, NISG, National eGovernance Division, Ministry of Electronics & IT, Yanpvuo Kikon were the resource persons for the seminar.

GENDER STATISTICS NAGALAND 2021 REPORT RELEASED

The Gender Statistics, Nagaland 2021 and a short video on registration of births And deaths (Dreamz Unlimited) was released by Advisor, Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Evaluation and Economics And Statistics, L. Khumoat Capital Convention Centre, Kohima on 30th November 2021.

The Gender Statistics Report 2021 is the 4th publication series published by the Directorate of Economics And Statistics which focuses on demography, health, education, employment, participation in decision making, social obstacles and other gender statistics.

According to the 2021 report, in demographic statistics as per 2011 censusthe sex ratio (number of females per 1000 males) is 931, for rural it is 940 and for urbanareas it is 908. Zunheboto has the highest sex ratio (976) and Mon has the lowest at 899. During the year 2020, total number of births registered was 46079, out of which 22917 (49.73%) were female and 23162 (50.27%) were male. Dimapur registered the highest with 6803 female and 6652 male which is followed by Mon with 6032 female and 5742 male.

In education and literacy during 2019-20, the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER)for general education at primary level for female is 165% and for male it is 163%, for upper primary class it is 79% female and 74% male, at elementary level it is 119% for female and 116% for male, at secondary level it is 61% female and 55% male and at higher secondary level it is 38% female and 34% male.

In economy and employment, the percentage of female cultivators (65.2%) and agricultural labourers (7.3%) are more than male cultivators (47.4%) and agricultural labourers (5.8%) respectively. On the other hand, females have less percentage (24.4%) in other workers category as compared to males at (45%). As per PMIS report, female employees comprised of only 22.46% of total employees during 2014 which substantially increased to 31.26% in 2020 out of which 31.38%, 28.55%, 28.52% and 36.55% of female employees falls under the categories of Class-I, Class-II, CLASS-III and Class-IV respectively.

In participation in decision making, during the 2018 State General Election women voters were 82.48% and male voters were 86.09%. Female voters in the 17thLokSabha Election 2019 was 82.69% and male voters was 82.44%.As per Rural Development department, there were 2438 VDB women members and 12 VDB women secretaries in Nagaland during 2019-20.

According to the report on census of land holdings 2015-16, total land holding size of Nagaland is 196882 hectares, out of which total land size holding by women is 19677 hectares (9.99%). Maximum land holding size by women was registered in districts of Kohima and Phek.
