TRIBAL FIESTA CELEBRATED IN KOHIMA

A Tribal Fiesta with “Igniting Cultural Traditions” as its theme was celebrated on 30th September 2022 at State Academy Hall, Kohima with Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Shanavas C as the special guest. The programme was organized by the District Cultural Office, Kohima, Department of Arts and Culture.

Speaking as a special guest, the DC Kohima said that organizing such events allow different cultural troupes to come together and showcase their culture and traditions and is always encouraging and reassuring that we haven't forgotten our roots. Shanavas said culture and traditions are the identities of oneself as were started and practiced thousands of years back and therefore urged the gathering to preserve and practice God's given rich Culture and Traditions. Recalling the experience in different parts of Nagaland, Shanavas said he finds it a mystery and wonders how such a diverse Culture and Traditions have accumulated in Nagaland which is very small geographically. The DC also talked about the Morungs in the Naga villages and remarked Morung Concept of Education as a welcoming initiative where traditional arts and crafts are taught, and suggested the Art and Culture Department collaborate with the School Education Department in organizing Youth Festivals in near future, which may become a yearly event to let our youths to embrace the importance and value of one's culture and traditions and carry it to generations.

            The DC said protecting one's own culture and traditions is very important but also respecting others is a must. He encouraged the gathering to adjust to other cultures with due respect, learn from others and go back to our roots to stay humble while educating youngsters. The DC also enlightened the students on the value of getting exposed outside the parameters to bring quality changes back home.

District Cultural Officer, Kohima, Haichenlo Kath while delivering the welcome address said that the objective of organizing such programme is to revitalize, preserve and promote the rich culture and traditions of the Nagas and requested the gathering to rekindle and ignite our culture and traditions by keeping the affinity stronger.

During the program, the Folklore was presented by Vikeyinuo Solo and Tongchet Amer, and the folk song and dance were performed by Minister's Hill Baptist Hr. Secondary School, Kohima, Angami Cultural Troupe, Pochury Cultural Troupe, Rengma Cultural Troupe, and Sümi Cultural Troupe (Surumi).

All the performing artists were felicitated with a certificate of appreciation. Assistant Research Officer, Art & Culture, Neidi Tachu pronounced the vote of thanks and the compere of the day was Alotoli Yeptho.
