RIO DEDICATES FOUR LANE RCC ARCH BRIDGE AT SANUORÜ RIVER, KOHIMA

The first ever four-lane RCC Arch Bridge in Nagaland at Sanuorü River, Secretariat Road, Kohima was unveiled and dedicated to the people of Nagaland by the Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio on 29th November 2021. 

Speaking on the occasion, Rio expressed appreciation and gratitude to the department officials, contractors, land owners, and others involved for extending fullest cooperation and executed the work successfully on time with sincerity and commitment. He said Sanuorü bridge is one of the most important bridges in Nagaland as it connects the main town to the ‘nerve centre’ of the capital. He said 'Government alone is not possible and one should not solely depend on the government to keep our towns and cities clean’. He added that it is the responsibility of every individual to maintain, preserve and protect our assets, environment and keep our surroundings clean. 

He said the bridge was inaugurated when it was needed the most, especially during the time when the state is looking forward to receive tourists and guests for the Hornbill Festival besides Christmas and New Year. 

Principal Secretary, Works & Housing, Menukhol John in his introductory remarks stated that the project was sanctioned by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highway in December 2015. And the work was allotted to M/s Vilelie Khamo- KC (Joint Venture) during July 2016 with the total cost of Rs. 35.81 Crores. So far, 12.35 crores has been released, which is  only 30% of the total cost and remaining 23.46 Crores is yet to be released, he stated. 

John thanked the department officials, Administration, Police, Power Department, PHED, Kohima Village Council, Kohima Village Youth Organization, L. Khel, Tsieramia Council of Kohima Village, land owners etc. for their services and contributions. 

Rev. Keviyiekielie Linyü offered the dedicatory prayer. Deputy Chief Minister & Minister In-charge PWD (R& B), Y. Patton, Ministers, Advisors, Government officials and a host of well-wishers graced the dedicatory programme.
